Abdominoplasty is a procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen. It is also designed to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall and to give you a flatter abdominal contour. It is not a surgical treatment for obesity, but rather removes the excess skin and fat that is resistant to diet and exercise and that is not amenable to liposuction. Often, even dedicated abdominal exercises will not tighten the muscles that have been stretched due to pregnancy. An abdominoplasty will tighten those muscles, thus flattening a bulging abdomen. Since loose, excess skin and stretch marks are also unresponsive to exercise, often the only option is excision to remove the skin. The excess skin and stretch marks from the belly button to the pubic area are removed. The procedure involves making an incision inside your belly button and also just above the pubic area where the skin tends to fold over. In order to have a smooth skin closure, the incision usually runs from one hip to the other. A drain is usually placed during the surgery and remains for several days. Recovery generally takes approximately 3-4 weeks. The scar is usually hidden within the underwear or bathing suit. An abdominoplasty is best performed after all childbearing is complete.
If you prefer the feminine perspective to cosmetic surgery, Dr. Saboeiro is an excellent choice. She is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Many of her New York City tummy tuck patients have benefited from her skills and expertise.
Dr. Saboeiro will go over the procedure in more detail during an initial consultation, and help you decide if you are an ideal candidate for tummy tuck surgery. While you may be home for several weeks after the operation, you may be asked to do some light exercise like walking to reduce swelling and enhance skin tone. Vigorous exercise is usually put off for about four to six weeks. But in the end, you'll find Dr. Saboeiro has turned back the clock to reveal a new you.
For optimal results, patients may choose to undergo complementary procedures, such as liposuction (“lipoplasty”) and/or breast augmentation surgery (“augmentation mammaplasty”). To see the potential outcome of these procedures, feel free to browse before and after plastic surgery photos, featuring the results that Dr. Saboeiro has provided for her previous patients.
